Old World Iron is an Oklahoma based company offering complete ornamental iron design and fabrication services for builders and homeowners. We are one of the few shops in America still able to produce hand made / hand bent custom iron fabrication for interior and exterior ornamental wrought ironWith decades of experience in ornamental iron fabrication, many of Oklahoma's most discriminating building professionals turn to Old World Iron for their most demanding projects.
Of all the jobs I've ever had, this is the most difficult. I took one look at it and immediately knew that I needed to get serious about a bender. It would've taken days--if not weeks--to fabricate a bending template, mount it in place and then hand bend this using heat. The builder simply couldn't wait that long. And, to complicate things, the curve isn't static throughout the arc; it changes angle at the 5th step. Also, the stair case rises at a severe 45 degree angle.....and only occupies floor space of about 8'x7'. So, it's an incredibly complex rail to build.
We mounted this bender on a rolling cart with pneumatic tires so we can take it to job sites. With the price of fuel and the complex nature of many of our jobs, it's a great money saving solution.
The machine is tremendously powerful for such a compact system. I actually deformed some cap rail when I got it twisted in the tooling during a bend. I was amazed at how easily it twisted and crushed heavy stock like that. Again, this was a learning experience but you can easily tell your customers how tough this machine is....I know from experience.
So, what does all this add up to? in the future, even a job this complex would probably only take me 2 or 3 days, as I get better with the bender. Plus, now we can take on even more of this type of work, increasing revenue and profit margins.... THAT is a good business decision.
Count me as a reference source any time. And, thanks (again) for your patience in answering all of my questions about a dozen times! I know I was a pain but you were great throughout the whole process and that means a lot to me.
This project was completed with a Eagle Bending Machines Z302.
